Youssou
N'dour runs for presidency
The Senegalese star Youssou Ndour, officially announced on Wednesday in
Dakar, his intent to lead the upcoming African government , put high on
the agenda of the next African Union summit which runs from 1-2 July in
Accra, Ghana. On the sidelines of the closing date of his promotional
tour for his latest album “Alsaama Day”, the African star declared “.. A
part from all demagogy, I solemnly announce my candidacy for leading the
future African government”.
Taking the floor in front of dozens of his fans with the presence of the
other Senegalese idol, the Bolton player , Al Hadji Diouf, Youssou
added, ”I’m aware of the enormous stakes connected to this issue, and I
have the required capacities”, he launched under a thunderbolt of
applause from his admirers.
He has selected by the US magazine “Time” among the 100 most influential
personalities in the world. Through this distinction the magazine wanted
to honor “ men and women whose power, talent, or moral values are
contributing to changing our world “ .
Being the first Senegalese ever to be selected as the 100 most
influencial personalities, Yousso Ndour took part in the last G8 summit
in Germany, where he has been given his distinction by representatives
of Time. <BR<
In addition to his political and charity activities (good will
ambassador to UNICEF, and the International Bureau of Labor ) Youssou
N’dour is a first of all an international pop star, he made duets with
other legends, namely Peter Gabriel, Neneh Cherry, and axel Red .
Youssou Ndour is considered as one of the most influential figures in
Africa and the world alike.
