The Carnival Bank Holiday Monday 2006 Big Show Review

Pap Diouf, Rebellion The Recaller and Papa Ndiaye Gewel Live

To start with the main act of the show Pap Diouf, Do you know your old school from new school? Well, if you don’t, I know. Pap Diouf was the man with the most harmonious voice that stood out in one of  Senegal’s greatest bands of the 90’s, “Lemzo Diamano”. After the band split up later into the millennium, Pap Diouf kicked off a very successful solo career, releasing a barrage of singles and albums including hits like Coco-rico, Fans yee, Pa pir, Ndaga Ndiaye to mention a few.

Over the past few years Pap Diouf have been steadily building up a very strong fan base in the UK. Which is evident in his recent popularity and frequent show casing in the UK. On bank holiday Monday Pap delivered yet another spectacular performance at club Afrique alongside Papa Ndiaye Gewel and Gambia’s Reggae Supper star Rebellion the recaller Presented by Waka J Promotion.

The show was kicked off by the energetic Papa Ndiaye Gewel with his traditional “Tassu”(Rap) and dance styles that always rocks the ladies and get them busy. Papa Ndiaye Gewel is an out standing performer and a skilled percussionist who have mastered the act of setting dancehalls ablaze and bring the best out of fans.. Over the past few years he has released some very successful hits including “A O I”, “Jongama”, “Fondeh” to mention a few. As you can expect he delivered a fantastic show and left the fans yearning for more.

Next on stage was Gambia’s talented big bad Rebellion the recaller who delivers conscious lyrics in a powerful voice that reaches deep in the hearts of mankind. Rebellion is a teacher, preacher and a rebel with a cause. His words of wisdom might not be understood by all, because of the dialect he delivers in, but just by watching him sing with intense feelings can inspire anyone one to feel him. He is one of Gambia’s very few successful artist who are trying to crack and pave the way for Gambian artist to reach the international music scene and get the recognition they deserve.

After a brilliant entertainment by the guest artist, the main act of the night Pap Diouf burst out from back stage and the fans went crazy. The former “Lemzo Diamano” supper star proved he is still the “girls them sugar”. The connection was instant and spontaneous. It was like Gas and Spark, what do you get? Fire! The fairly packed Club Afrique rocked all night with hit after hit, sing-alongs and sexy dancing to the end.

It was the first Gambian show ever to be held @ Club Afrique, a fabulous club and a great venue for show and parties. The only problems were the stage was a bit low and the sound could have been better.

The inspirational Waka j introduced the SeneGambian showbiz fans yet to another new venue which i am certain will be hosting more Gambian  “Raves” in the near feature. ViVa WAKA J.
