For every
dark cloud there is a blinging
shining silver lining, and so it
showed on Saturday 12th
June at the Waka J and First
Entertainment ALL WHITE V.I.P PARTY
@ Club Anatolia. It’s definitely
been quiet a bit of seconds since
the last time we’ve been to a ball
so swanky. It was absolutely a night
of pure ecstasy, the venue was
inundated with party-people dressed

V.I.P All White Party Theme. The

Assane Ndiaye in London (Carnival 2007) |
|
The
Nothinghill Carnival weekend was a special opportunity for most African
countries to bring their culture and entertainment traditions alive.
Gambia and Senegal, in the same unity of one culture, partied through
the entire carnival weekend. From a football tournament at the Hackney
Park to the various DJ party and to a grand performance of mbalax golden
voice Assane Ndiaye.
Stratford Rex Assane Ndiaye’s live
concert was the main show and rendezvous for the Senegambian community
in London. Organised by Yaram Arts in collaboration with Saul Sounds
Joluv Arts, the show, a big sell-out, had the glamour and fulfillment
expected. Gambia’s Freaky Joe and Pa Omar Jack supported on the night,
opening the stage for Assane Ndiaye and his Nguewel Gui Band. Freaky Joe
aka Singateh rolled two tracks from his collection of reggae/dancehall
hits whilst Pa Omar Jack unsealed his popular song ‘Fish and Chips’ for
his London fans, who instantly had a change of mind on their famous fast
food ‘chiken & chips’.
From the tama, traditional drums and
the rhythmic mbalax sound to the sweet golden voice of star singer
Assane Ndiaye, the live performance was an utmost display of
Senegambia’s popular music culture. And Ndaga dance-steps were contested
both on the dance floor and the performing stage.

Youssou N’dour in London’s
Grand Bal |
Amidst
doubts of a two show on a night, Superstar singer Youssou N’dour dazzled
a mixed audience in an eight hour concert hosted on the 21st of July at
London’s prestigious Indigo2 venue. Yousou N’dour was earlier advertised
on billboards for one show but later an attached promo, restricted to
the reach of Senegambia community in the UK, divulged that the superstar
singer/actor would be performing another show on the same night. And
that became a reality.
The first phase of the concert treated the well-blended world music
audience to his crossover tunes, which included hits such as ‘Seven
Seconds’, ‘How Come?’, ‘Biko’, ‘In Your Eyes’, ‘Shakin The Tree’ and a
couple of his mild and sentimental mbalax tracks. The phase two,
facilitated by B.O Njie’s promotional outfit, BOAN Concept, gave the
Senegambian UK community that opportunity to watch Youssou perform his
new songs live. Swedish-based promoter B.O Njie thought it would be
exclusive to have Youssou for a late night performance on the same
night. “Senegambian music fans in the UK would be glad to dance to a
hardcore mbalax, especially from a maestro like Youssou,” says B.O. “And
that was actually the reason I strived as much to facilitate a second
show on the same night. The feedback was brilliant; good turnout and
excellent fun.”The first show
on the night, which began at 7pm and ended at 11pm, was promoted by
Aeglive. After a two-hour break, the second show, tagged the London
Grand Bal, began and went on till 5am.
