FLX-MAN has been
in the music
industry for
over thirteen
years. He
started doing
music when he
was at high
school, and
simultaneously
hosting a radio
show called
Pencha Reggae
and Ragga
showcase at
Citizen FM in
Kanifing Layout.
After two years of
hosting this Radio Show
he decided to form a
musical group with some
of his colleagues and
came up with the name
Pencha B.
Pencha B became undoubtedly one of the best and most successful musical groups in the Gambia, and most proficient in creating outstanding blends of purely African flavours in ragga, reggae and hip hop.
His grounding as a professional artist began during these years. His commitment and love for music always pushed him to research, so as to have a stronger grip to the requirements of music. As such, he personally wrote and arranged some of the songs done by the group PENCHA B, which released five albums namely, Chossan ken du mome, Nyohou Borome, Slavery, Kairo Songs of the Gambia and finally Mann ak Yow which was done in collaboration with another group called Dancehall Masters.
"My music is based on a typical Wollof -Talif on hip hop beats, reggae, dancehall, folk and some times I blend in some nice acoustic songs both in English and wollof. As an artist, my main focus is on creativity and originality."
"My strong and very rich West African heritage that has stunned the entire world is an invaluable source of great inspiration."
"As an artist, my environment and history has motivated me to capture those factors that influences the everyday life of my own people in my music. These include, war, poverty, disease, corruption, marital disagreements, domestic violence and other social vices. I equally ensure the portrayal of the pretty part of my surrounding in my songs. Such as, beauty, rich culture, hard working, decent livelihood, hospitality etc."
"The whole idea behind what I call Talif-Hip hop both the music and lyrics is based on issues that are affecting Humanity/mankind and the physical environment that has endured so much abuse and misuse as a result of human activity."
“Talif”- The preaching of good teachings.
Flx-Man’s ambition is
to revolutionize the
entire showbiz and
multimedia scenario in
The Gambia to a
livelier, more creative,
more innovative and
original concept that
would earn the respect
and recognition of all
and sundry.
