Born in Banjul the
capital city of the
Gambia, Essay a.k.a "Mam
Bai Trained soldier" is
an artist who stands out
in the fraternity of
young Gambian talents
because of his unique
style and sturdy believe
in righteous music.
Essay's love for music
became quiet clear to
his family at a very
tender age. This love
blossomed by the time he
became a teenager and he
has never looked back
since.
After travelling around
the world soul searching
and exploring different
cultures and ways of
life he finally made
Stockholm, Sweden his
base, making frequent
trips to his beloved
country the land of the
smiling coast The
Gambia.
Over the past 10years
Essay "Mam Bai Trained
soldier" a bona fide
ghetto youth has been
knocking on every door
and getting his hustle
on, in his quest to put
his musical career on
solid ground. During
this time he has worked
with several music
producers in Sweden and
all around the world. In
mid 2001 he linked up
with Hip-hop legendary
producer SKEE (Dele) and
had the opportunity to
refine and polish his
talent to a great deal.
Later in the year 2006,
Essay was blessed again
to linkup with old
music friends "NORDIC
STEEL" in Rotebro and
the result was getting
in the mix with some
top dogs in the big time.
Bumping shoulders with
artist like MILLOIN
STYLEZ, CONDORLOCO,
JAHKNIGHT, RICHIERIOTT
and producers like
JATRIX, SPITFIYAH and
IMANRUSS.
His persistence and
resolve finally paid off
in 2007 when he stormed
the charts in the Gambia
with the release of his
first official album
"Right over Wrong"
on his own label
BRIGHT LIGHT RECORDS.
The media/radio stations
went bonkers and fans
started falling down
like summer rain.
According to him " I'm
all for Gambia! I feel
its our time! The world
is about 2 know about us
and taste the new, fresh
taste of blessings from
the smiling coast. We
are going all out now!
In anything we do".
His latest category five

with a Senegalese
Rap sensation El
President, is
sending tremors all
across the world and
positioning him on a new
pioneering Elite of
Gambian artist. His
latest single out now
for download is a cut on
the "Guidance Riddim" by
The new Gambian owned Recording studio
and label DA Block
Entertainment Studio
produced by CEO/Mc/Producer Mohawk (from Da Fugitives/Energy
sounds).
