Gambia's
indubitable king of Afro-manding, Jalex, a.k.a
"Akuntu" is in town, holidaying in London, and having a good time after
after jetting in on June 4th for his summer break.
Over the past 12 months, Jalex has been
the Biggest
cheese in the Gambia, so Big, even the president wanted a slice. Notably,
his several performances for him over Christmas and New Year.
The cultured, proud to be Gambian big shot, has also let loose yet another chart
shattering album entitled "Baddiya". Which is being
received very well by fans at home and abroad. Included on the album is the song
"Akuntu Telendango", the video of which is now out on
www.ukgambians.com
and youtube.
Jalex is no stranger to the UK as this is his second time in the country and his
music is well loved by some top UK mainstream Djs like Eric Soul and DJ Edu of
BBC1Xtra. You will recall, back in 2007 he was presented live for the very first
time in the UK by Njok Malick (Yaram Arts) @ The vissions. Dj Eric Soul also
featured him at the Big Chill House in Kings Cross a week later.
He also scooped the Best Gambian Artist of the year award @ the Waka J
Promotion's Senegambia Award 2007. Ukgambian.com also had an exclusive interview
with him and his manager Gary Jones which has been heavily featured on our site
and was a big hit.
It seems there is no "cut" in "Akuntu", as he bagged another
award from the president's awards in 2009. Adding to his long list of
achievements and ventures Jalex now presents his own massive
hit radio show on Paradise FM in the Gambia, every Tuesday at 4pm local time.
He is due back in the Gambia in July to full fill commitments, including a
bookings for the forthcoming July 22 celebrations. Oops..!That's another slice
of the Big cheese for the president.

Check us back shortly, as we are trying to get him cornered for another in-depth
interview.
