The
month of May is African Film Month (AFM)
at The Madcap Performing Arts Center in
Wolverton, Milton Keynes
The month of May this
year has been designated Milton Keynes
African Film Month by one of Africa’s
leading independent female film
producers. 36 year-old Nana Oguntola
originally from one of the smallest
countries in Africa, The Gambia, has
managed to prove that size does not
necessarily matter when it comes to
making a big name in the world of film.
Before forming her Gambian based film
company in 2002, Nana was one of the
first newsreaders and head of drama and
children’s programming at The Gambia’s
first ever TV station in 1996. Nana
graduated from King Alfred’s College
Winchester in 1995, and since then her
films have been shown across Africa,
Europe and the USA, with her most recent
film “Prevention” screening at the 2007
Pan African Film Festival in Los
Angeles.
Since 2002 Nana has worked extensively
with her British Writer/Director husband
Segun Oguntola. Between them they have
produced a variety of feature films
documentaries and TV programs on
subjects and themes as wide ranging as
HIV/AIDS and the Methodist Church in The
Gambia, to cookery shows, music shows
and detective series.
Nana has over 12 years of broadcast
credits and production experience. Her
production company VINASHA has
successfully delivered major
audio-visual projects to private,
public, multinational and international
companies, NGOs, and institutions such
as Standard Chartered, Shell Oil,
Concern Universal, The World Bank, Trust
Bank Ltd and Gambian telecommunications
giant Gamtel.
