Gambian
President
Yahya
Jammeh
has told
the
people
of his
constituency,
Foni, in
the
Western
part of
the
country
that by
2009 he
would
stop
providing
assistance
to them
if they
failed
to
response
to his
call to
take u p

as the
way
forward.
He made
this

and
Television
Services
(GRTS)
as part
of his
meet the
farmers
tour,
saying
by 2009
he would
stop
assisting
h is
people.
Jammeh
frowned
at the
youths
in his
Foni
constituency,
saying
"they
are not
doing
anything
but
leaving
all the
jobs in
the
hands of
non-Gambians
whom, he
had o f
taking
all the
available
jobs.
He noted
that
food
self-sufficiency
was the
way
forward
for the
country.
Jammeh
said
while he
could
cure
most
kinds of
sicknesses,
he could
not cure
hunger.
He urged
the Foni
youths
who had
abandoned
the area
for fear
of
witchcraft
to
return
home,
assuring
them
that
there
was no
longer
anything
to fear.
According
to him,
the
government
will
come
with a
US$ 12
million
project
to
adequately
build
the
capacities
of
farmers
in Foni
--
including
the
provision
of bor e
holes
and
other
relevant
equipment
for them
to
engage
in
actual
farming
for a de
c ent
living.
Jammeh
added
that the
government
would
establish
seven of
such
projects
each
year
across
the
country
with the
ultimate
objective
of
providing
clean
and
potable
w ater
for
Gambians.
