A
group from The Gambia is to be given a tour of a state-of-the-art waste
processing facility in Wiltshire.Brian Twigger, chair of the Wiltshire Waste
Partnership, organised the trip for 15 visitors from Gunjur, which is
twinned with Marlborough.
He said: "I have been over to The Gambia and lived with a family. I have
seen how resourceful they are at reusing and recycling.
"They put our throwaway society to shame."'Precious resources' The group
will be visiting in June and will tour schools to educate children on life
in Africa.
Mr Twigger added: "We are rightly proud
of the fact that people in Wiltshire recycle nearly 40% of their household
rubbish.
"But it does not mean that we can't
learn something from other societies about the prudent use of precious
resources."Wiltshire Waste Partnership is a collaboration between councils
across Wiltshire, pooling knowledge on tackling waste.
