50% of GamTel sold, says paper |
|
|
| |
Gambian
newspaper The Point reports that the country’s government has agreed to sell 50%
of national incumbent fixed line operator GamTel, owner of GSM operator Gamcel,
to a Lebanese-owned company called Spectrum. The sale of the government’s stake
is said by the paper’s unnamed source to have taken place with effect from 1
August 2007. As part of the terms of the sale, Spectrum has reportedly agreed to
install a management team, to work alongside officials of the fixed line and
mobile units. German consultancy DeTeCon is reported to have won the management
contract, although the details have not been confirmed by the state or the
companies in question.
